They also offer pet insurance for horses as well as exotic pets and small mammals and birds. br>

HealthyPets insurance has good plans that are very reasonable for young mongrel dogs or cats. It is more costly for older pedigree dogs.

Vet fees- Illness or Accident
Routine/Preventative care- things such as: vaccinations, annual exam, spay/neuter, heartworm testing and meds, teeth cleaning, tick and flea meds, are not covered..
Hereditary conditions- are covered as long as they’re not pre-existing.
Hip Dysplasia- Are included in the hereditary conditions as long as not pre-existing.
Death- Will cover replacement price of pet if dies from accident or illness (dog under 9, cat under 11).
Euthanasia- humane destruction only is covered with Healthypets.
Cremation or burial is not covered.
Boarding- If you go to hospital boarding is covered for silver and gold Healthypets plans.
Holiday cancellation- is covered for silver and gold plans only.
Cover abroad- vet fees are covered if you are abroad according to the PETS travel scheme. Pet passports are not covered.
Quarantine Costs- are not covered with Healthypets.
Behavioural problems- behaviour problems will only be covered if they are a direct result of an insured incident while covered by their plan.
Prescription Meds- are covered if they are prescribed by a vet.
Dental- treatment is only covered for accidents only.
Alternative treatment- ( acupuncture, massage…) is covered if it is approved by Healthy pets.
Breeding, Fertility, Pregnancy- is not covered by Healthypets.
Medical devices - is not covered.
Lost/Stolen Pet (Advertising to find pet if lost/stolen/strays)- are covered for silver and gold plans only with Healthypets.
Third party liability(dogs only) - 1 million dollar coverage for all plans.

Healthypets will accept claims from any vet, whether an emergency out of hours vet or your normal vet. House calls by vets are only covered if it would endanger the pet’s life to move it to the veterinary surgery.



Can the vet be paid directly?
Yes, if the vet agrees to it. It is done through the pet vet direct program.



If not, How quickly are claims processed?
10 days from the time they receive the claim.



Does Healthypets cover examination fee (if it relates to the injury or illness) ?
Yes, as long as it relates to the injury or illness that you are claiming for.

Except dogs under the dangerous dog act.

Dogs under this act aren’t covered



Do I stop getting coverage as my dog ages?
No, once you sign up, your pet is covered for life as long as you pay the monthly premium.



Does age affect monthly price (as my dog gets older will the monthly premium go up) ?
Yes, as your dog ages, your monthly premium will rise slightly.



Do you put the monthly price up every year? By how much?
Your monthly premium will go up each year. They could not give me an amount that it rises by, as it is not a set amount that it rises.



Does Healthy Pets serve all of the UK? Is the monthly amount more depending on where I live?
Healthy Pets serves Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. The monthly amount changes, depending on your postal code.



Waiting period?
10 days for illness.
Accident has no waiting period.



Do rates increase with more claims/penalized for filing more claims?
As of 2011, you will get charged more if you file more claims, however this may change.



Maximum lifetime claim amount?
yes, depending on the plan. The maximum is a per condition maximum that can be reached anytime in the pets life.



What is the co-pay?
25% for pets over age 5 years.

What they don’t cover - claims that are directly or indirectly related to:
• Pets under 6 weeks old.
• Pre-existing conditions.
• No coverage for injuries that result from: breeding.
• Treatment not recommended by a vet.
• Illnesses or Accidents that happen outside of UK, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, channel islands, Eire, or the EU countries of the PETS travel scheme defined by DEFRA listed here.
• Will not insure dogs that are a breed under the “Dangerous Dogs act 1991 or Dangerous dogs act 1991(Northern Ireland)”
o These dogs include: Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and pets described similar in type and characteristic. They may not even be of this breed, but if they’re described to be the same.
o This is described as a type and characteristic, NOT breed, meaning any dogs that have characteristics as the above breeds.
